How a Flooring Job Runs

Most projects follow the same five steps, whether insurance is involved or you are simply ready for a new floor.

  1. 1

    A phone conversation

You tell us what happened or what you want to change. We ask about the rooms, the current flooring and whether you have reported the loss to your insurer, then set a visit.

  2. 2

    The in-home visit

We measure, check the subfloor, take moisture readings and photograph any damage. You see samples in your own light, which matters more than most people expect.

  3. 3

    Your written estimate

You receive a line-item estimate and copies of our photos and readings. If an adjuster needs to see the scope, you can share it as written.

  4. 4

    Installation day

We lay protection along the walkways first, then take up the existing flooring and level or repair what lies beneath. The new material goes down after that, and we tidy up each evening so the rest of your home stays usable.

  5. 5

    Final walkthrough

We walk every room with you, check transitions and trim, and leave care instructions for your specific material.

Flooring We Install

Our work covers hardwood flooring, luxury vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile, tile flooring, laminate, carpet installation, carpet tile, vinyl composition tile and stair flooring. Each material behaves differently under humidity, foot traffic and sunlight, so we talk through how you use the room before recommending anything. If a material is a poor fit for a space, such as solid hardwood over a slab that holds moisture, we say so and show you what will hold up better.

  • Kneeling installer uses a pneumatic nailer to fasten oak hardwood boards over a dark subfloor in an empty room, with a stack of boards behind him

    Hardwood Flooring

Solid and engineered hardwood matched to your subfloor, with moisture readings and photos on record if a leak or storm brought you to us.

  • Installer kneeling on a concrete subfloor, clicking a wood-look vinyl plank into fresh rows, with black spacers along the white baseboard of a gray room

    Luxury Vinyl Plank

Rigid-core vinyl plank laid over a checked, leveled subfloor, with photos and a line-item scope if a water damage claim is part of the job.

  • Tile setter kneeling to lay a large gray porcelain tile onto combed thinset, with spacers in the joints and a notched trowel resting on a thinset bucket

    Tile Flooring

Porcelain and ceramic tile set on a flat, sound base, with careful documentation when leaks or flooding have damaged the old floor.

  • Installer kneeling on foam underlayment, tapping a laminate plank row into place with a rubber mallet and tapping block, with a stack of planks nearby

    Laminate Flooring

Click-lock laminate laid over a properly prepared subfloor, with photos and moisture notes for your adjuster when water damage started the project.

  • Installer kneeling on a concrete slab, tucking gray carpet at a tack strip by a doorway, with a rubber mallet, tools and rolled padding nearby and carpeted stairs behind

    Carpet Installation

New carpet and pad, power-stretched with seams placed out of traffic, plus photos and line-item notes if an insurance claim is part of the job.

  • Installer kneeling on a bare concrete slab, pressing gray carpet tiles into rows in an empty room, with a stack of tiles beside him

    Carpet Tile

Modular carpet squares for bonus rooms, playrooms and offices, installed over a tested slab so a stained or soaked tile can be swapped instead of the whole floor.

  • Installer kneeling on a concrete subfloor, clicking gray wood-look vinyl planks into place in a hallway, with black spacers along the white baseboard

    Luxury Vinyl Tile

Stone and tile-look vinyl laid over a tested, flattened subfloor, with careful photos and notes when water damage and insurance are part of the job.

  • Installer kneeling on a concrete subfloor, angling a wood-look vinyl plank into fresh rows, with spacers along a white baseboard and an open box of planks

    Vinyl Composition Tile

Tough, low-cost VCT for laundry rooms, mudrooms and workspaces, with photos and line-item notes if a leak or claim brought you here.

  • Installer kneeling on a plank floor, using a rubber mallet and tapping block to set a wood-look tread on a white-risered staircase, bare lower step exposed

    Stair Flooring

New treads, risers and nosing cut to each step, with photos and measurements of any damage so your insurance paperwork starts on solid ground.

What Shapes the Cost of a New Floor

Every price we give comes from measuring your rooms and looking at what sits under the current floor. Two jobs of the same size can differ quite a bit once prep and layout are counted. These are the factors that move the number most.

We give you a written, line-item estimate after an in-home measurement, so nothing is guessed from a phone description. If the scope changes once the old floor is up, we explain why and show you before continuing.

Square footage and room layout
Open, rectangular rooms install efficiently. Closets, angled walls, hallways and many doorways add cuts, waste and time.
The material you choose
Solid hardwood, porcelain tile, luxury vinyl and carpet vary widely in material cost and in how much labor each takes to lay correctly. Tile, for example, needs setting and grout time that click-together vinyl does not.
Condition of the subfloor
After water damage, the subfloor may need drying, leveling or replacement of soft plywood before anything new goes down. We show you photos of what we find so the reason for any added work is clear.
Tearing out what is there now
Old carpet and pad usually come up in a few hours. Glued-down tile or leftover thinset on a concrete slab has to be chipped or ground away, which takes longer and creates dust we contain, so it carries more labor.
Stairs, trim and transitions
Stair treads and risers are measured and fitted one at a time. New baseboard, quarter round and transition strips between rooms also add to the total.
Matching for a continuous look
When only one room is damaged, the existing flooring may be discontinued. Replacing adjoining rooms for a consistent look affects the scope, and we note it separately so you can discuss it with your insurer.

How We Handle Your Project

A damaged floor often arrives with an insurance question attached. We keep the flooring work careful and the paperwork clear, without making promises about what a policy will pay.

We document before we touch anything
On the first visit we photograph the damaged area, take moisture readings in the subfloor and nearby walls, and measure each affected room. You keep copies. That record helps when an adjuster asks how far the water traveled.
An estimate you can actually read
Our written estimate lists removal, subfloor prep, materials, trim and transitions as separate lines. You and your adjuster can see exactly what each part of the job involves.
Honest about what we are not
We are not your adjuster and we do not decide coverage. We explain how the insurance process usually runs, what information helps, and where a question belongs with your insurer instead of with us.
Care for the finish and the house
We cover doorways, protect cabinets and baseboards, and move furniture with care. Cuts are made outside or in a contained area when possible, and we clean up each day before leaving.
Material advice grounded in use
Kids, pets, a slab foundation, a sunny west room. We match the material to the conditions so the new floor wears well for years, not just on install day.

What Baytown Homeowners Want to Know

Is new flooring something my insurance will cover?
Your insurer makes that call, based on your policy and on what caused the damage. A sudden event such as a burst pipe is often handled differently than a leak that went on for months. Our job is to record the damage carefully and write a detailed estimate, so the adjuster is working from accurate information.
Will you handle the adjuster on my behalf?
We don't serve as your adjuster, and we don't negotiate claims. When the adjuster asks to see the floor, our photos or our measurements, we share them gladly and answer questions about the flooring work. Coverage is decided between you and your insurance company.
After a leak, what should I do before your visit?
If you can, shut off the water and photograph the area yourself before moving anything. Let your insurer know about the loss soon. Leave wet flooring in place until it has been documented, because the adjuster may want to see it as it is.
What kind of floor stands up to humidity and spills?
Porcelain tile, luxury vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile deal with moisture well and are a good fit for kitchens, bathrooms and slab foundations. Engineered hardwood and laminate can work too when the prep and underlayment are right. Because summers here are so humid, we test for moisture before suggesting any wood floor.
How many days will the install take?
One room of carpet or vinyl is often done in a single day. Tile needs more time for setting and grouting, and bigger homes or major subfloor repairs add days. Your estimate comes with a realistic schedule.
Do you stand behind the installation once you finish?
Yes. A 1-year workmanship warranty comes with every installation we do. The flooring itself is covered by its manufacturer, so those terms depend on the material you choose.
Should I clear the furniture out myself?
Leave the big pieces to us. Our crew moves sofas, beds and dressers and sets them back when the new floor is in. Ahead of time, please pack away lamps, decor and anything fragile, and empty closets or lower cabinets in the rooms we're working in. Your things stay safe and we can get started on schedule.

About Flooring Baytown

We are a flooring company that works inside homes across the Baytown area. Much of our work starts after a supply line bursts, a water heater fails or a storm pushes water under a door. Those calls come with stress and a lot of unfamiliar paperwork, so we try to make our part of it calm and orderly.

Our approach is simple. Look closely, write it down, explain it plainly, and install the floor the way it should be installed. We would rather tell you a less expensive material suits your room than sell you something you do not need.
