Stair Flooring in Baytown, Fitted One Tread at a Time

We replace worn or damaged stair coverings with hardwood, vinyl plank, laminate or carpet, cutting each tread and riser to the step it belongs to. If water or an accident caused the damage, we photograph and measure it first so your insurance claim has clear records.

Stairs Ask More of a Floor Than Any Room

A staircase takes the hardest wear in your home. Every step lands on the front edge of the tread, so nosing loosens, carpet thins at the lip and vinyl or laminate edges start to lift. Stairs also rarely match from top to bottom. One tread may be a quarter inch deeper than the next, and a good result depends on measuring each one on its own.

We have been in business 25+ years, and stairs are where careful work shows most. A tight nosing, square riser joints and a smooth transition onto the landing are what you notice every time you walk up.

When damage comes from a plumbing leak or storm water, many people are unsure what their policy covers on stairs. We explain how we document the damage and what our estimate shows. We do not act as your adjuster or promise what a claim will pay, but we make sure the record is clear.

What Our Stair Work Covers

  1. 01

    Tread and riser replacement

We remove the old covering down to the stair structure and fit new treads and risers. Each piece is cut to its own step rather than to an average size.

  2. 02

    Matched stair nosing

Vinyl plank and laminate need a dedicated nosing piece to protect the front edge. We source nosing that matches your floor's color and thickness so the edge looks finished, not patched.

  3. 03

    Carpet on stairs

For carpeted stairs we install new pad and tack strip, then wrap the carpet tightly over each nose in a waterfall or Hollywood style, whichever suits your home.

  4. 04

    Landing and transitions

The landing and the floor at the top and bottom get the same material or a clean transition, so the stairs read as part of the room. Our Hardwood Flooring and Luxury Vinyl Plank pages cover those adjoining floors.

  5. 05

    Squeak and structure check

With the old covering off, we check for loose treads and soft spots and secure them before anything new goes down.

  6. 06

    Damage documentation

Before demolition we photograph each damaged step, note moisture and staining, and record measurements you can pass to your insurer.

Signs Your Stairs Need New Flooring

  • Loose or cracked nosing

A nose that shifts underfoot is a trip hazard. It usually means the adhesive or fasteners have failed and the tread needs proper attention.

  • Carpet worn bare at the edge

When the backing shows through on the lip of each step, the pad underneath is usually crushed too.

  • Swelling after a leak

Laminate and particleboard treads swell and peel when water reaches them. Once that happens, drying them out will not bring them back flat.

  • Lifting vinyl or laminate edges

Edges that curl up at the nose catch shoes and socks, and they tend to get worse with each season of Gulf Coast humidity.

  • Stairs that no longer match the floor

If you have replaced the floors downstairs, older stairs can look out of place against the new surface.

How a Stair Job Runs

  1. 1

A call, then a measured visit

We start with a phone conversation about your stairs and what happened to them. On the visit we measure every tread and riser and photograph any damage.

  2. 2

A written estimate you can share

You get a line-by-line estimate listing materials, nosing, removal and any structural fixes. It is written so you can hand it to your insurance company alongside the photos.

  3. 3

    Installation day

First we lay protective covering where the staircase meets the rooms above and below. Then the old material comes up and the new treads go on, working downward from the highest step. Most evenings you can still use the stairs, and our crew is insured while working in your home.

  4. 4

    Walkthrough and cleanup

We walk every step with you, check for movement or gaps, and clear away scraps and dust before we leave.

What Moves the Price of Stair Flooring

Stairs are priced per step plus the details that make them work, not by square footage like a room. The material you choose matters, but so does the shape of the staircase and what we find under the old covering.

Number and shape of steps
Straight runs are simplest. Winders, open sides and curved bullnose steps need extra cutting and custom pieces.
Material and nosing
Solid hardwood treads, vinyl plank with matched nosing and carpet each carry different material and labor costs.
Condition underneath
Water-damaged or loose treads may need replacement or reinforcement before new flooring goes on.
Landing and adjoining floors
Carrying the material onto a landing or matching nearby rooms adds area and transition work.

Common Questions About Stairs

After a leak, will insurance cover new flooring on my stairs?

Your insurer decides that, based on how your policy reads and what caused the damage. What we do is photograph and measure every damaged step before removal and give you a clear written estimate, so your adjuster can see the whole picture.

Will my new stairs match my current floor?

Usually. We bring samples and look for a tread and nosing close to your floor's color and thickness. When an exact match isn't made anymore, we say so directly and suggest an option that goes well with it.

How much time does a staircase take?

Most straight staircases take a day or two, depending on the material. Carpet tends to be quicker than hardwood or vinyl plank, which need separate nosing pieces.

Can vinyl plank be used safely on stairs?

Yes, as long as every tread has a proper stair nose glued and fastened in place so it can't move. That nosing gives the step a firm edge and grip a plank can't offer by itself.

Do you back the work once the stairs are done?

We do. Every installation, staircases included, carries our 1-year workmanship warranty. If a nose loosens or a seam opens because of how we installed it, we come back and fix it.
